Hide & Seek Cafe Bar: A Playful New Find for Coffee, Croissants & Weekend Cocktails

Who remembers when I stumbled across the Harrods Champagne Bar on its very first day of opening? Thanks to my mother, that post remains my most read to date. Well, today history repeats itself with another just-opened spot. Another happy accident.

Hide & Seek Cafe Bar - the new cafe in the city

Say hello to Hide & Seek Café Bar, the new cafe in the city. Only a day old with a name as playful as the vibe inside. The smiles fresh, the welcome genuine and the menu? I am reading it like a travel itinerary. Dubai croissants, Spanish lattes… At this rate, I could be stamping my passport.

So naturally, I start ticking off.

The sunshine helps too. In this city, outdoor tables are rare, so I claim one. I like that Hide & Seek Cafe Bar is stamped into everything from the coffee tray to the outdoor wooden tables and benches. From there, I overhear the same surprise I’m feeling. Everyone’s learning Hide & Seek Cafe Bar has just opened.

Seven days a week, 7 am to 6 pm, though the sign on the door insists Fridays and Saturdays stretch until 10 pm. I make a note to come back and see what happens then. Will they have music? Will have to find out!

And now, I have my answer. Fridays and Saturdays come alive from 6 pm with a live DJ spinning something a little old school. Shoulder bopping, laid-back beats, familiar rhythms. A shift from coffee spot to cocktail bar.

One drink easily becomes two here.

It’s a different pace entirely from the daytime crowd. The laptops disappear, the lighting dims. You shimmy off the troubles of the day and shimmy those shoulders into the groove.

Now, this cafe bar is not only suitable for first dates but also the spot you go once the relationship has found its rhythm.

First things first though: coffee. Their most standard latte, nothing overly fancy, but good enough that I’d happily have asked for half a shot more. Hot day or not, my extra-hot preference wins again. And the fragrant pistachio cream covered croissant? Gone before I even thought of saving half for later. Sweet. Devoured in one.

Dirty Nachos - Hide & Seek Cafe Bar

Months on, the food menu now has added personality. Alongside the classics, there’s a growing menu designed for those unplanned let's go out for a bite to eat. There's the Naughty Cheese Toastie and the new “dirty nachos.” Messy, with a little kick and very much made for sharing… or not.

Will the name, Hide & Seek live up to the game? You’ll have to visit and see. But first you'll need to find it and I’ll help: it’s a straight five-minute walk away from the Champagne Bar, mentioned earlier.

If you’re the kind who prefers landmarks over seeking, you’ll find it tucked just moments from Harrods in Milton Keynes Shopping Mall. It is sufficiently close for a post-shopping break but decidedly away from the bustle of the mall.

With summer on its way, the cold drinks section deserves your attention too. Iced coffees, milk shakes and chilled cocktails are the refreshing pours that make those outdoor tables even harder to leave. This is where Hide & Seek really comes into the season. Sun out, drink in hand, nowhere else to be.
